Breckenridge Group Meeting: The City of Ames will host a neighborhood meeting to discuss a proposal by the Breckenridge Group to redevelop land on the site of the former Ames Middle School 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, at the Ames City Hall Council Chambers, 515 Clark Ave.

Art Rentals: Find more than 175 pieces of art to rent for the semester or the full year 10 a.m. to noon in the browsing library on the ground floor of the Memorial Union.

Iowa State Fair: Nothing Compares to the Iowa State Fair, which opens Thursday, Aug. 8, and runs through Aug. 18. There are hundreds of free activities, from old-time fiddler demonstrations to contest in cow-chip throwing and husband-calling, plus the Bill Riley Talent Search, daily horse shows, food on a stick and more. You can find a list of 100 State Fair freebies to try online.
