I grew up in Waterloo/Cedar Falls Iowa and studied journalism at Iowa State here in Ames. I worked for daily newspapers as a reporter for the Fort Dodge Messenger and the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier before moving to South Carolina in 2006. I was a staff writer for the Charleston Post & Courier in Charleston, SC until June, when I took a job with Patch to return to Iowa.
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs.
So in the spirit of simple honesty and adhering to Patch's policy, I'll reveal my beliefs below. I hope that the knowledge that my beliefs are on the record will lead me to be ever mindful to write, report, and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you, the user, ever think you see evidence that I failed in this mission, I hope you will let me know.
I'm slightly more interested in politics than the average person because of the nature of my job. I think both Republicans and Democrats offer solutions to problems that would work at least in theory. As a journalist I believe in explaining how the actions of government officials affect you. If you want to know more, feel free to ask me.
I believe in God and in respecting the beliefs of others.
