Tim Rasmussen Announces Candidacy for Ames Community School Board

Rasmussen said the board is on a good path but wants to provide the district insight and leadership.

Candidate filing for the Ames Community School board doesn't open until July, but resident Tim Rasmussen has already announced his candidacy with a letter to the community.

The seats of Board Members David Putz, Mike Espeset and Bill Talbot are up for election in September.

Today, I am beginning my campaign for a seat on the Ames School Board.  I had seven excellent years as a teacher.  Between my four years of elementary teaching, one year of substitute teaching, and two years as a K-8 Extended Learning Program teacher, my experiences in the classroom will assist me in serving on the board.  Additionally, my 22 years of successful business management have provided me with a strong background in maintaining budgets and overseeing projects.

My wife, Michelle, and I have three sons in the Ames School District.  Wyatt is a senior, Cameron is a sophomore, Cael is a fifth grader, and all three have had great experiences so far.   As a family, we’ve had experiences with five of the eight schools in the district.  I look forward to their continued success in this great school district.

Recent years have required some difficult decisions be made by our school board.  Our district is on a good path right now, but more issues and decisions will arise.  The ongoing process of continuously improving our schools is a process that I think I can provide insight and leadership.  I have meetings scheduled with some stakeholders over the next few weeks, but look forward to talking to anyone that would like to discuss the direction of the Ames Community School District.

Thank you,

Tim Rasmussen
