UPDATE: One Contested Race for Ames City Council

Three newcomers filed for the ward 4 City Council seat.

Just one race in the Nov. 8 Council election will be contested.

Filing for the three seats up for grabs closed 5 p.m. Thursday. The only race was in ward 4, where incumbent Riad G. Mahayni announced he would not run.

Newcomers Victoria Szopinski, 3710 Ross Road; Frank Jeffrey, 237 Wildflower Drive; and Chuck Jons, 2916 Forest Hills Drive have all filed for the seat.

City Councilman Jami Larson filed for his ward 2 seat and City Councilman Matthew Goodman also filed for his at-large seat but they face no challengers.

The city election is Nov. 8. An $18 million bond referendum for a expansion will also be on the ballot.
