Lincoln Way House Fire Causes $20,000 of Damage

Ames Firefighters said an accidental fire displaced residents and caused about $20,000 in damages.

A house fire over the holiday weekend caused $20,000 of damage and displaced the residents of the two-story Lincoln Way home, according to a release from the Ames Fire Department.

Firefighters went to the 1100 block on Lincoln Way about 5 p.m. Saturday for a report of a fire in the home and discovered a bed burning on the second floor once they went inside.

Everyone who lived in the home was able to make it out safely, but firefighters did have to rescue two cats, according to the release. The cause of the fire appeared to be accidental.

Capt. Doug Allen said it looked like the fire was caused by a toppled candle.

Candles were in the area where the fire started and there were pets and children in the home, he said.

β€œIt's hard to say how it actually happened,” Allen said.

Allen said a mother and two children and possibly more people were living in the rental home and firefighters were working with the landlord to see if they could move into another home. Β
