Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Assault in Ames Police Blotter

Ames Police Blotter Sept. 14 to Sept. 17.

An Ames man faces a string of charges after allegedly leaving the scene of a motorcycle accident on E. 13th Street, Saturday evening.

Logan Witt, 23, Franklin Street, was charged with failure to maintain control, driving under suspension, leaving the scene of a serious injury accident and failure to provide security for an accident that took place about 8 p.m. Saturday on E. 13th Street near the intersection of Meadowlane Avenue.

According to complaints, Witt was driving his motorcycle at a high rate of speed and accelerated on 13th street when his passenger, a 24-year-old Ames woman, fell off the back and he lost control after the fall, complaints said.

The woman will suffer serious permanent disfigurement as a result of her injuries, complaints said. People told police that they asked Witt to stay on the scene but he left, complaints said. Police found him at home later along with a motorcycle that matched the description of the motorcycle at the scene. All charges against Witt are misdemeanors. Leaving the scene of a serious injury accident is an aggravated misdemeanor.

Another Ames man, Gasim Haron, 24, was charged with assault causing bodily injury after a police officer saw him strike another man several times in the face in the 100 block of Welch Avenue, complaints said. The man receiving the blows suffered a red swollen face and lost consciousness, the complaint said. The charge is a serious misdemeanor.
