Ames Police: Drunk Man Tries to Enter Wrong House

A man mistook a home for his own and thought he was in an apartment when he was in a garage, court documents state.

A man whose blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit for drunk driving tried to enter a New Hampshire Ave. home that was not his and told the resident there that he thought he was in his own home, according to complaints.

Ames police were called to the New Hampshire Ave. home about 2:14 a.m. on April 21.

When police arrived, they talked to the resident and heard a noise from the garage and discovered a 20-year-old man, inside of it. He told police that he thought he was in an apartment on Delaware Avenue. His blood alcohol percentage was .186, according to criminal complaints. The man was charged with public intoxication and trespass.
