Former ISU Football Player Found Not Guilty Of Felony Assault

Earl Brooks was charged with felony assault for allegedly striking a woman in the face in January 2011.

Earl Brooks, 24, a former Iowa State University Cyclone football player, who was originally charged with felony assault was found not guilty of those charges in Story County Court last month.

Brooks was originally charged  with assault causing serious injury, a Class D felony, in January 2012 for an incident that took place in .

According to complaints, Brooks allegedly pushed a woman in the face and then struck her in the face early Jan. 16, 2011 at , 2401 Chamberlain St. The woman he was arguing with was reportedly knocked unconscious and suffered broken facial bones, the complaint said.

However a jury found Brooks not guilty according to online court records.

Brooks was a safety on the Iowa State football team last season, but he didn't appear in any games because he was injured in training camp. He was charged after the last game of the season which was Dec. 30.
