Woodin Honored at Board Meeting Just Hours Before Death

Woodin, who has been battling cancer, was honored by friends and family at the board meeting Monday. He died at home Tuesday morning.

When Ames School Board President Dan Woodin couldn't make it to his school board meeting Monday, the community brought the meeting to him, KCCI reports.

Woodin's friends and family wore red shirts bearing the school board president's name to honor him during the meeting and gave him a standing ovation there and again outside his home.

Woodin, who was diagnosed with lymphoma in the summer of 2012, learned recently that the cancer had spread throughout his body and all treatment options have been exhausted. He died at his home Tuesday morning, the Ames Tribune reports.

Woodin had continued to serve on the school board throughout his treatment rarely missing a meeting until Monday.

β€œIt was his medicine it's what kept him going,” Woodin's daughter, Annon Schwegler, told KCCI.
