Ames Council Member Announces Plans to Run for Re-Election This November

The election will be held this November. All but one seat on the council will be up for election.

Ames council member Victoria Szopinski has announced her plans to seek re-election as the Ward 4 representative on the Ames City Council.

Szopinski was elected elected to the council in 2010.

“Representing the citizens of Ward 4 on the Ames City Council has been an incredibly rewarding experience,” Szopinski said in a press release. “Ward 4 is my home, my neighborhood and I deeply appreciate the confidence of the voters when they endorsed me. I look forward to continuing as the voice of all the people of Ward 4 on the Ames City Council.”

Szopinski said she will maintain her focus on issues important to the residents of Ward 4 and the community, including quality of life, flooding mitigation, schools, and economic and growth incentives for businesses.

As a member of the Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors, Szopinski said she is excited about the plans to reestablish our prominence as a destination for conferences and visitors. “Improved facilities will attract more people to our community who stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants, and enjoy our growing shopping opportunities.”

In addition to being on the council, Szopinski is on the Ames Reads board and is contributing to the design of a countywide Youth Master Plan, which will explore innovative strategies to better prepare young people for college, work and life.

Her professional background includes ISU’s Director of Conference Services, academic fundraiser for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, many years as a music promoter and agent, lecture agent, and event manager.

The Ames City Council election will be held this November.

Due to redistricting and expiring terms, all but one spot on the council will be up for election in November, the Ames Tribune reports.
