Police: Man's Search for Bed Was Criminal

A man in search of a place to stay found a bed in the Story County Jail police say.

A 26-year-old Ames man, who allegedly forced a woman to give him a ride around town as he looked for a place to stay, eventually found a bed in the Story County Jail, police said.

Dwight Taylor of E. Lincoln Way, reportedly forced a woman to drive him around Ames July 10 while he looked for a place to stay and wouldn't let her out of the car or let her use a phone to call for help, according to police. He allegedly threatened to beat her during the ride, police said.

Taylor was arrested on a charge of extortion, a Class D felony, false imprisonment, a Class D felony, and obstruction of emergency communications, a simple misdemeanor on Saturday July 13. Class D felonies are punishable by up to five years in prison.

Taylor was being held Monday in the Story County Jail on a $6,000 bond.
