Dog Missing 8 Days Rallies Community, Social Sites

The community has rallied around Moriah Perkins in her search for her missing golden retriever. The dog went missing after a home burglary on July 2.

Moriah Perkins has received an outpouring of support from the community since her dog went missing during the process of a move from Ames to Boone, but she still hasn't found Archer, a female golden lab.

Perkins left her dog and four cats in her Ames home on Northwestern Avenue last week while preparing her new home and returned on July 2 to find the door ajar, Perkins said.

Perkins said there were signs of forced entry, nothing was missing, but her cats and dog had gone outside. She quickly found her cats, but saw no signs of Archer. Word spread of the missing dog through Facebook and other social media channels to be on the lookout for a lab with a pink collar. Perkins received sightings of the dog daily, but they have tapered off.

The Ames Community Swap Site at https://www.facebook.com/groups/106903349435504/ has shown a substantial interest said one board moderator Jasmine Conrad.

“Moriah and Archer's story has become very endearing to many Ames residents as we are posting signs everywhere for her. Moriah is six months pregnant and working her tail of everyday searching for her, along with many residents in Ames randomly volunteering to drive about ames and search for her,” Conad said in an email message.

Many people have contacted Perkins with sightings and friends and old neighbors have been keeping their eyes on Perkins' former Ames home in case Archer comes home.

“I want to thank the entire community of Ames,” Perkins said.

Perkins goes back to the home daily with fresh food and water.

The dog is trained to stay in her yard without a leash, but may have been scared by the burglars, Perkins said. And Perkins had already moved most of her furniture when the break in occurred.

“She knew I left,” maybe she went looking for me, Perkins said.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the dog, a golden lab with a pink collar, can call Perkins at 641-352-9227.
