Is Ames Romantic? Redbox Says Yes

Ames had one of the highest percentages of romantic comedy rentals in 2011.

Not many people voted for cuddling up at home with a movie in Monday's about Valentine's Day.

But, according to a Redbox survey of its customers, about 60 percent of people are expected to do just that on Feb. 14.

If the survey is accurate a lot of Ames residents may be doing the same; this town landed third on Redbox's list of most romantic cities. The movie vending company said Ames residents rented a high percentage of romantic comedies in 2011.

While 60 percent of those surveyed by Redbox said that they would watch a movie next Tuesday, about half of Americans said they just wanted a thoughtful card, and another 40 percent said they would like flowers. Just 24 percent of those surveyed wanted candy.

If you are going to break down and get a movie and you need some ideas, Redbox plans to carry “What's Your Number?” “Breaking Dawn” and “Wedding Date,” all new releases, just in time for Valentine's Day.
