Things to Do With Mom on Mother's Day in Ames

Events for Moms on Mother's Day in Ames.

People who plan on spending time with their mothers on Mother's Day Sunday can find plenty of ways to spend the day with moms in Ames. The best part is moms can do most of these things below for free. Mothers can view Reiman Gardens free from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The first 100 mothers to pass through the gate will receive a cut flower. And a youth activity station will be set up from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mother's can swim free at the Municipal Pool on Mother's Day if they bring their child. Open swim is from 1 to 3 p.m. Regular admission ranges from $1 to $3.50. Brunnier Museum will host Mother's Day at the Museum at 2 p.m. Sunday. Reiman Gardens in Ames Participates in National Public Gardens Day

Free admission to area gardens for Fifth Annual National Public Gardens Day held annually on the Friday before Mother's Day.

Reiman Gardens is one of five in central Iowa that will participate in National Public Gardens Day Friday. Patrons will be admitted free and be able to participate in free educational programs at all participating gardens. The only catch is that people need to download a free voucher from Better Homes & Gardens at BHG.com. At Reiman Gardens, visitors will be able to view the “Iowa Naturally” sculpture exhibit participate in guided tours at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Friday, and be offered a free seedling. Anyone who visits any of the five gardens including Reiman, will receive a garden passport that can be completed and turned in for prizes. Reiman Gardens Opens Iowa Naturally

From a Press Release: Reiman Gardens opened its summer sculpture show “Iowa Naturally” on April 27. The set of 13 sculptures is part of the Gardens' annual theme “More than Meets the Eye-o-wa” Each sculpture was created by Iowa artists. Spring Egg Hunt at Reiman Gardens Hosted by Ames Jaycees

The Ames Jaycees will host a Spring Egg Hunt 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Reiman Gardens to celebrate the spring season. Festivities will include an egg hunt for all children in sixth grades and younger. The first 400 children who find a colored egg will be able to trade it for a goodie bag. The morning also includes craft and activity stations and a visit from Reiman Gardens’ Spring Bunny. The theme for 2013 is “More than Meets the Iowa.” The conservatory has been transformed into a “blast of spring color” for the “Winds of Change Exhibit.” Youth discovery stations will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. With Halloween just weeks away area venues are coming up with some spooky events for all to enjoy.

Weekend events in Ames include hauntings, spirits, singers and more.   Ames Haunted Forest The Ames Haunted Forest is open from 7 p.m. to Midnight Fridays and Saturdays and from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays leading up to Halloween. See the full schedule at the Ames Haunted Forest website. The forest is located east of University Boulevard on S. 4th Street. Tickets are $12. Spirits in the Gardens Reiman Gardens will celebrate Halloween with craft and activity stations from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 20 and Oct. 21. The event is free to children under 18. All American Car Show Labor Day Weekend in Ames

The All American Weekend might be no more, but the All American Car Show by the Iowa Street Rod Association is still on over the Labor Day weekend. The show takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.  Here are some other things you can do if you stay home this weekend: Reiman Gardens Reiman Gardens will be open extra hours through Monday. The Iowa Games continues for the third weekend from 8 a.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Sunday. Games this weekend include: baseball, dodgeball, cowboy action shoot, figure skating and more. Iowa Shrine Bowl The Iowa Shrine Bowl Game is an all-star football game featuring college athletes on the north south line of the state of Iowa begins 7 p.m. Saturday at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames. Watch the Fourth of July Fireworks at Reiman Gardens

One way to celebrate Fourth of July in Ames.

Due to a technical difficulty the Ames Jaycees fireworks show will take place Tuesday July 3. Reiman Gardens has also switched the day of its event. Reiman Gardens will be open all day Tuesday for the Fourth of July starting at 9 a.m. and visitors will also be able to watch the Ames Jaycees fireworks show from the garden that evening, Tuesday July 3. The Butterfly Wing will close at 4:30 p.m., but throughout the day, guests can walk the grounds, explore the “Some Assembly Required” displays, and see the Nature Connects: LEGO® Brick Sculpture Show.
