The University of Iowa has a pink locker room for opponents. But speakers at a state LGBTQ conference last week say that is discriminatory and possibly illegal. What do you think? Vote in our poll and tell us your views in comments below.

Iowa State University senior linebacker Jake Knott was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week.
Iowa State linebacker Jake Knott has been named the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week. It is the second time Knott has won the award. He also picked it up during the 2010 football season. The honor comes on the heels of Knott's interception heard 'round Iowa on Saturday as he helped the Cyclones to a 9-6 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes. That interception of a Hawkeye pass with just 1:11 left in the game cemented his place as the Big 12 player of the week. Knott finished Saturday's game with six tackles. Knott, a 2009 graduate of Waukee High School, is a senior management major at Iowa State University. Knott is the son of Laura and Tim Knott.

Iowa State Cyclones came into Kinnick Stadium and defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday.
The Iowa State Cyclones defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes before a packed Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City on Saturday. The game of in-state rivals from major NCAA conferences is one of the biggest sporting events in the year in a state without major professional sports. The final score was 9-6, in a slow moving, at times ugly, game that featured a handful of turnovers on both sides. The win brings the Cyclones to 2-0 on the season and drops the Hawkeyes to 1-1. The Cyclones scored on the opening drive of the game with a 5-yard pass from Steele Jantz to Aaron Home, but they missed the extra point. That would be the only touchdown of the game. The game was close throughout, and the Hawkeyes had several chances to win, including in the final moments. A…

Forget Romney versus Obama, the biggest rivalry in Iowa this week is the University of Iowa Hawks versus the Iowa State Cyclones.
"The word is fight! Fight! Fight! for Iowa! Let every loyal Iowan sing!" And now the Cyclone fight song! ...Wait. I don't actually know the Iowa State fight song. But I grew up knowing the Iowa song. Confession: I don't even like football. I try to watch, and after about a minute I invariably realize I'm totally bored. But even I know where I stand on the eternal statewide question of which team is number one. Even when we lose, we know we're still the best. Sorry Cyclones, this editor is a firm Hawkeye. The University of Iowa did give me my journalism degree, after all. Where do you stand? With the Big Game coming up on Saturday, we want to know. Vote in our poll to tell us which is the BEST team. And then tell us in the comments what …

It's one month away from Iowa versus Iowa State's annual brawl. Who's gonna win?
College football season is less than a month away. Despite the fact that a disturbing number of my alma mater Hawkeye football players were five years old when Kirk Ferentz became head coach at Iowa, which makes them inexperienced and me feel incredibly old, I am quite excited for the upcoming season. And one of the best games of every year is the annual rivalry game against Iowa State on Sept. 8. So, to help pass the time, I would like to see you all predict who will win this new trophy and claim football bragging rights for the next year.

Hawkeyes take on Cyclones in Ames.
Hawkeye and Cyclone fans sound off in the lead up to the rivalry game in Ames
Iowans are a pretty reserved bunch, but for one week a year the gloves come off as the two biggest universities in the state square off in the annual Cy-Hawk football rivalry. One thing's certain, Iowa and Iowa State fans have been sounding off all week. Here is more coverage from Patch about today's game in Ames, and tailgating rules. GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann is even swinging by. Sports radio, message boards, social media have been lit up with fans sending blasts back and forth. Here is an article from University of Iowa about why the rivalry is so important to Iowans, and here is a taste of the spirit of the fans from Twitter and Facebook fan sites: Lainey_Luthens Lainey Luthens "Did he look like a total weirdo?" -Me…

The Cy-Hawk game should bring 75,000 to Jack Trice Stadium Saturday.
Ames will be playing host to a very large tailgating party in and around Jack Trice Stadium for the annual Iowa State-Iowa game this Saturday. The Iowa State Athletic Department staff expects the stadium's 55,000 seats to sell out. An additional 25,000 ticketless people will likely hang out in the parking lots. And some of the 75,000 people have already arrived. Here is what visitors should know: Public consumption laws do not apply in the Iowa State Center parking areas but people are not allowed to drink hard liquor, bring kegs or drink from glass bottles. No wood fires or real furniture are allowed. Parking lots open at 5 a.m. Saturday but Cyclone Club members with donor permits were allowed to park their recreational vehicles at noon …
