Five things happening in Ames today and some other things you might want to know.
1) Best Books Ames Public librarians will discuss their favorite books for young people starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Farwell Brown Auditorium at the Ames Public Library. They will focus on books published in 2011. 2) OWLS Story County Conservation's Older Wiser Livelier Seniors program will focus this month's topic on "Bird Photography with Digital Cameras.” The program is designed with seniors in mind, but it's open to all. Meetings are held at McFarland Park. The presentation is free. Lunch costs $7 but an RSVP was required by Friday. Things happening in Ames today and what else you should know.
1) State Fair State Fair the Musical will be performed by Ames High School Choral Music and Drama students Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The performances will be held in the Ames High School Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on Friday Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4; and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5. Tickets cost $6 for students and $10 for adults. 2) Queen of Bingo ACTORS Studio an all volunteer community theater in Ames presents Queen of Bingo Dinner Theater 6 p.m. tonight. 1) A Discussion on Post-Blackness A NBC correspondent Touré, author of "Who's Afraid of Post-Blackness," will discuss his book in the Great Hall at the Memorial Union at 8 p.m. Touré interviewed more than 100 prominent blacks about what it means to be black today and how blackness has changed through the years. Touré's talk is also part of the National Affairs Series and Black History Month. 2) British Foods Sample Ames British Foods will offer samples of hard cider, wine, beer and bacon form 5 to 8 p.m. Local folk band Cheshire Moon will perform during the event. 1) Grandma Mojo's Moonshine Revival Grandma Mojo's Moonshine Revival, Iowa State University's student sketch and improv group will perform at 10 p.m. tonight at the Maintenance Shop. Admittance is $1. 2) Ag Jobs About 100 employers are expected to recruit students at the Iowa State University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences spring career fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Great Hall at the Iowa State University Memorial Union. The career fair is open to the public and is the largest such career fair in the country, attracting students from other colleges. 1) African American History in Iowa Hal Chase, of Des Moines Area Community College, who continually seeks Iowa's African American stories, will present the stories he's found already during “Outside In: African-American History in Iowa.” at 7 p.m. in the Ames City Auditorium.
