Group Aims to Make Ames Healthiest Town in Iowa

Healthiest Ames is currently meeting with members of the community to establish a healthy action plan for the city.

The City of Ames might not have received a Blue Zone designation, but that hasn't stopped Ames from being a healthy place. The interest was still there however and members of Healthiest Ames plan on meeting with others throughout the community to set an action plan to support healthy lifestyles. The plan would be completed in early spring. A list of the current Healthiest Ames members follows below: Community at Large (tobacco policies, bike-ability, personal …

Three Best Protein Shakes at Power Full Nutrition

The fitness business opened in December.

Power Full Nutrition, 130 Main Street, is where anyone can find a path to wellness and 51 flavors of protein shakes. The business opened at 130 Main Street just before Christmas and has six owners. Four are from Ankeny and two others are college students. The three favorite protein shake flavors of owners Carla Schultz and Mark Hensch and a customer on a recent Tuesday were Cinnamon Roll, a vanilla flavor shake; the Cookie Monster, a cookies and cream shake; and Funky Monkey, a chocolate treat. In addition to shakes, employees also offer wellness evaluations, a plan for meeting fitness goals and --- once renovations are complete --- will offer fitness classes in the upper level. I've done Ames Racquet & Fitness and GIM. I also did extra boot camp classes at ARFC. There's no comparison. I've lost serious weight at GIM, made a lot of great friends, and my body has not been this good for about 15 years. I feel amazing and having help on the nutrition side has been that extra little part I needed. ARFC is classes. Goals is family.   more ›
