2013 College Grads Seeking Jobs Hurting If They Didn’t Get Work Experience in School

While job prospects have improved in some professions since previous years, this spring’s Iowa college graduates with the best chances to land jobs will be those demonstrating professional experience they gained while in college from more than place.

Kohl's Department Store, which expects to open near North Grand Mall in March is hosting a job fair Saturday through Jan. 16 at the Holiday Inn Conference Center at 2609 University Blvd. The company hopes to fill 105 positions for the Ames store according to release from the company. The fair will take place from 10:45 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday and from 10:45 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, 11:45 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday and 8:45 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. Jan. 15 and Jan. 16. Positive Job Market in Ames/Des Moines Region

The latest Manpower survey shows employers plan to add staff at a steady pace through March.

The employment outlook in the Ames and West Des Moines area looks positive according to the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey. About 16 percent of employers interviewed plan to hire more employees and just 8 percent planned to reduce their staff from January through March. About 75 percent of area employers expected to maintain their staffing levels. While hiring activity is expected to increase this quarter it's still less than a year ago when the net employment outlook was 14 percent. The report states. People looking for a job might find the best offers in the wholesale & retail trade, financial activities and leisure and hospitality industries.

Ames Makes Business Insider Top 10 for Cities with Low Unemployment Rates

Ames tied for sixth with a familiar city home to the Hawkeyes.

Iowa City and Ames share a friendly rivalry when it comes to sports, but they are tied for an even more important statistic. An analysis by the Business Insider of American metros with the lowest employment rate found Iowa City and Ames tied at number six in the country. Is it a coincidence that both schools have large state run universities? Hardly: Higher education and industries that support it are the reason these metropolitan areas are doing well.
