Some board members wanted to wait a week to make a decision but ultimately decided to move forward with RDG.
The Ames Community School Board voted 5 to 1 to negotiate a contract with RDG Planning and Design to design three new elementary schools and renovate two other elementary buildings in the district. Board President Dan Woodin cast the dissenting vote. He said during the meeting that he prefered SVPA. Some board members such as Mike Espeset said he wanted to wait a week to do some more homework like checking references. He had called half the people but didn't reach everyone, but he voted with the majority of the board when the time came. The Ames Community School Board spent an evening interviewing six firms interested in designing new elementary buildings and renovations last week. Tonight, Monday, the board hopes to make a decision on who to hire. BCDM, of Omaha/Roseland Mackey Harris Architects PC, of Ames; DLR Group, of Des Moines; OPN Architects, of Des Moines; RDG Planning and Design, of Ames; StruXture Architects, of West Des Moines; and SVPA Architects, Inc. of West Des Moines were all considered. Board president Dan Woodin has said he hoped the board would be able to make a decision on who to hire at tonight's meeting. Ames Community School Board hopes to interview 6 architects May 29 and have one on board by June 4.
The Ames Community School District narrowed the list of architects who were interested in designing new elementary schools in Ames to six. The Board plans to interview BCDM, of Omaha/Roseland Mackey Harris Architects PC, of Ames; DLR Group, of Des Moines; OPN Architects, of Des Moines; RDG Planning and Design, of Ames; StruXture Architects, of West Des Moines; and SVPA Architects, Inc. of West Des Moines; at the May 29 meeting, said Kathy Hanson, Ames schools director of community and media relations. Those selected were among several architects that offered or were asked to submit a proposal for services.
