Ames Police Blotter: Statutory Rape

Police Blotter from May 13 to May 17.

A 25-year-old Ames man has been charged with third-degree sex abuse and sexual exploitation of a minor for an alleged ongoing relationship he had with a 14 to 15-year-old girl in 2012. Craig Maggard, of North Oak Avenue, was arrested on the charges Thursday evening, police said. Police spoke with the girl in the summer of 2012 and she admitted to performing sex acts with Maggard and told police that she believed they were in a relationship, criminal complaints said. As part of the investigation, police seized Maggard's cell phone and found a topless photo of the girl, according to complaints. Maggard was charged with third-degree sex abuse and sexual exploitation of a minor. The third-degree sex abuse charge is a Class C felony, punishable…

Ames Police Blotter: Marijuana Dealing

Police Blotter May 10 to May 13.

Two Ames residents were charged with delivery of marijuana and conspiracy with intent to deliver marijuana Monday. Both Vyagales Shaw, 22, of Billy Sunday Road, and Michele Harris, 20, Coconino Road, face felony charges after an ongoing investigation, according to complaints. Harris was charged with delivery of marijuana for the sale 15 grams of marijuana to another on May 6 and conspiracy to deliver marijuana for the sale of 3.5 grams of marijuana on May 10, according to criminal complaints. Ames Police: Woman Spit on and Bit Police Officers

A 28-year-old woman spit and bit police officers who were trying to arrest her early Sunday.

An Ames woman was arrested on eight charges including the assault of three police officers early Sunday, according to police. Kaia Anne Kriener, 28, South Dakota Ave., reportedly kicked the doorman at Charlie Yokes about 1:40 a.m. Sunday prompting a call to police. Ames police found Kriener sitting on the floor in the food prep area of Pita Pit, a business just around the corner from the Campustown Bar, police said. Kriener was smoking a cigarette and refused to do anything officers told her to do. She wouldn't stand up and refused to give police her ID and started thrashing, kicking, biting and spitting, police said. Ames Police: Drunk Man Tries to Enter Wrong House

A man mistook a home for his own and thought he was in an apartment when he was in a garage, court documents state.

A man whose blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit for drunk driving tried to enter a New Hampshire Ave. home that was not his and told the resident there that he thought he was in his own home, according to complaints. Ames police were called to the New Hampshire Ave. home about 2:14 a.m. on April 21. When police arrived, they talked to the resident and heard a noise from the garage and discovered a 20-year-old man, inside of it. He told police that he thought he was in an apartment on Delaware Avenue. His blood alcohol percentage was .186, according to criminal complaints. A 20-year-old man was recently charged with third-degree sex abuse, a Class C felony, and tampering with a witness. According to an article in the Ames Tribune, Nefi Jacob Torres, 20, was accused of assaulting an 18-year-old woman in October. A warrant was filed in March and Torres was arrested April 22. Ames Police: Teen Driver Admits To Drinking, Didn't Realize He Struck a Car

Hit and run driver said he didn't realize he struck a car, police say.

An 18-year-old driver accused of striking a car near Lincoln Way and Grand Avenue, told Ames police that he had been drinking, but didn't realize he'd been in an accident, according to criminal complaints. The accident occurred about 11:50 p.m. April 20 and the driver reportedly didn't stop, according to complaints. Police stopped the man shortly afterward at 1107 Buckeye Ave. near Red Lobster. The man admitted to drinking, but told police he didn't realize that he hit another car near Grand Avenue and Lincoln Way, which is why he kept going, complaints said. Ames Police: Drunk Man Released, Sent Back to Jail in the Same Day

A 49-year-old man apparently celebrated a little too much after being released from Story County Jail recently. Ames Police went to the 600 block of Lincoln Way just before 8 p.m. Monday April 22 for a report of a drunk man and recognized the man as Terry Stromley, according to criminal complaints. Stromley told police that he was drunk and had been drinking ever since he was released from jail that afternoon, complaints said. Stromley had blood shot watery eyes, slurred speech and swayed when standing, complaints said. He wouldn't comply with field sobriety testing and physically resisted the officer during his arrest and tried to kick, complaints said.
