From an ISU Athletic Dept. media release: Iowa State University announced Wednesday that it fully anticipates exceeding last year’s record setting season football ticket sales of 40,547 and also expects to continue to have more than 50,000 fans attend home games which currently stands at 13 straight games. “As of this morning we have sold-out of season tickets in the end-zone and only have a few scattered single tickets left in the non-donor cardinal ($225) and gold ($175) sections," said Justin Thompson, Director of Ticket Sales. “At this point we only have a limited supply of full-price donor tickets ($375) and hillside ($125) tickets available”. Another school year has come and gone, and the time is here to wish a new class of graduates good luck as their high school years come to an end. Ames High School will hold its commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 26. Here's what you need to know: When: May 26, 2 p.m. Doors open at 1 p.m. Where: Hilton Coliseum, 1700 Center Dr. For those of you with graduating seniors, commencement rehearsal will be held in the high school gymnasium at 7:30 a.m. sharp on Wednesday, May 22. Advertisers and retailers already know their customers' ages, genders, what they buy and perhaps how much money they earn and whether they have children, but what if they could add shoppers' faces to those data profiles and use it to display advertisements meant just for them. Facial recognition software would make it possible. Brian Mennecke, an associate professor of information systems at Iowa State University, said most of us aren't ready for that type of privacy invasion, but the day that shoppers will walk past a digital sign with a display that changes to an advertisement meant just for them isn't so far away. Developers will discuss how they plan to seek approval for a project to turn the 90-year-old school into condominiums.
The purchasers of the Roosevelt Elementary School hope to redevelop the 90-year-old school building using the city's adaptive reuse process according to a staff report that will be discussed at the Ames City Council meeting Tuesday. If the city agrees, the council will have the power to waive some zoning standards for the project. The Iowa State University coach recently sat down with the Des Moines Register, during which he said he's hoping to lead the Cyclones to a winning season next year – the first time in 13 years.
In a recent interview with the Des Moines Register, Iowa State football coach Paul Rhoads said next season, he hopes to accomplish something that hasn't been done in over 10 years. What exactly? Ames School Board members discussed proposed elementary school boundary changes and family grandfathering recently.
An Ames School Board Boundary Committee will recommend that the school board allow family grandfathering when attendance boundaries for most Ames elementary schools change in 2014. Board members met with Parents and Teacher Organizations in April and also took feedback from residents on new school boundaries and more. Ames School District Superintendent Tim Taylor said no one had issues with the proposed boundaries set to change with the opening of the Miller Avenue school in 2014, but families were concerned about dividing their children among schools.
