44, born on June 3, 1968 to Glenda Darnell Myles and Gary O'Neal Laudry, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at her home in Ames on May 11, 2013. She is survived by her mother, the father of her children, Robert James Selby, her three children; Christina Darnell Selby, Kyle Isiah Selby, and Aaliyah Sierra Selby, one brother, Laron Christopher Myles, one sister, Layvonne Vanessa Myles and one sister-in-law, Gwendolyn King Myles. She is also survived by two nieces; Lakeisha Beatrice and Sidney Nicole Myles, two uncles; Aaron Douglas and Robert Byron Hendrix. Her visitation is set from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. May 19 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, and a service is set for 11:30 a.m. …

Former Iowa State Track Coach Steve Lynn Dies

ISU's former head track coach Steve Lynn, 61, died Wednesday.

Former Iowa State University Track Coach Steve Lynn, 61, of Ames, died Wednesday at Mary Greeley Medical Center, according to a release from Iowa State University Athletics. Lynn's death was related to a fall that took place in his home last week, according to an article posted at thegazette.com. Lynn was a former Big Eight Conference Track Coach-of-the-Year and served as head coach for 14 years and 16 years as an assistant coach. Lynn was instrumental in winning 15 Big Eight Conference track and field titles between 1981 and 1994, according to a release from the university. He also served as executive director of the Iowa Senior Olympics since 2009. Find the full release at Cyclones.com.

Funeral Friday for ISU Student and West Des Moines Native Emily Weikert: Obituary

Funeral services for Iowa State University graduate and West Des Moines native Emily Weikert, 25, who died last week after she was shot in a Denver suburb, will be held at noon Friday at the West Des Moines United Methodist Church, 720 Grand Ave. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 1601 Westown Parkway. Burial will be at Jordan Creek Cemetery in West Des Moines. The following obituary is published on Hamilton’s website: Emily was born on May 25, 1987 in Sioux City, IA to Kellie and Rod Weikert. 'Not a Funeral but a Celebration': Community Gathers to Say Farewell to Elizabeth Collins

Family, friends and the community gathered in Cedar Falls to celebrate the life and love of Elizabeth Collins, whose body was discovered with her cousin Lyric Cook-Morrissey after a search that lasted nearly five months.

Hope, not despair, was the theme of the night Thursday as the community gathered to bid farewell to one of its stolen children, Elizabeth Collins. Elizabeth, 8, was mourned not just by her family and friends, but by thousands of people who spent months searching and praying for her and her cousin, Lyric Cook-Morrissey, 10, after the two girls disappeared while riding their bikes one sunny July day. "It’s a celebration for her," Elizabeth's mother Heather Collins said as around 1,500 people filled Heartland Vineyard Church in Cedar Falls. Countless others watched the service live on the local and regional news. "I know she’ll be looking down on us, smiling and dancing along with us and singing." Live Stream of Elizabeth Collins' 'Life and Love' Memorial Celebration

Elizabeth Collins and her cousin Lyric Cook-Morrissey, of Evansdale, went missing July 13. Their bodies were recently discovered. A 'Life and Love Celebration' and visitation will be held for Elizabeth tonight.

A "Life and Love" service in honor of Elizabeth Collins is taking place in Cedar Falls tonight. Collins, 8, and her cousin, Lyric Cook-Morrissey, 10, of Evansdale, disappeared while riding their bikes near Meyers Lake July 13. Their bodies were discovered in a wooded area of Bremer County last week. Heartland Vineyard Church, at 405 Greenhill Road, Cedar Falls, will have a visitation and service for Elizabeth tonight, Dec. 13. The visitation is 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with the service to begin at 7 p.m. The church also plans to offer a live stream of the funeral on its website.
