Ames Weekend Events Celebrate MLK and Harry Potter

Things happening in Ames this weekend and some other things you might want to know.

1) MLK Celebration on Sunday

Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday will be celebrated on Monday, but at least one celebratory takes place Sunday. The at 3721 Calhoun Ave. will host an interfaith celebration of the life and work of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, King's real birthday. Representatives of several faith communities will discuss the meaning of the day for their communities in a 90 minute service that includes music and refreshments.

2) Madrigal Dinner

You might remember . Now it's time for 's Madrigal Dinner at the Great Hall in the Memorial Union. The performance begins with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $42 and $38 for ISU students.

3) Spamalot

Spamalot, a musical ripoff of Monty Python and the Holy Grail is set to begin 7:30 p.m. Saturday at . The King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table Tale won a Tony Award in 2005. Tickets are $44 to $60 with fees.

4) Harry Potter Yule Ball

Muggles and all are welcome to attend the Teen Yule Ball at the from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Dressing up in costume is encouraged but not required.

5) Dia Frampton

Dia Frampton of "The Voice" will perform 8 p.m. Sunday at the Maintenance Shop in the . Tickets are $13 for students and $15 for all and students who don't buy advance tickets.
