Keeping Cool at the Iowa State, UNI Football Game

High temperatures, humidity and thousands of tailgaters are expected at Jack Trice Stadium Saturday. Here's some tips on keeping cool before the game.

Ninety-degree temperatures coupled with humidity have pushed heat indexes above 100 degrees for much of the week and more of the same is expected before Iowa State Cyclones take on the University of Northern Iowa Panthers at 7 p.m. Saturday.

A high of 95 degrees is expected Saturday, according to the latest Wunderground forecast.

Iowa State News Service released a list of tips on how to keep cool through the game or anywhere else you happen to be. Find them below:

First wear sunscreen, sunglasses, light, loose-fitting, clothing and a hat.

Drink plenty of water.

Apply cold packs to the neck and under the arms when feeling overheated.

Avoid strenuous activity and rest in the shade or under a tent or umbrella.

Eat small, light meals. (Avoid high-protein foods that increase metabolic heat.)

Infants, children and elderly and those with high blood pressure or heart disease or people who have consumed a lot of alcohol can be susceptible to heat illnesses.

Signs of heat illnesses include: muscle cramps, flushed skin, heavy sweating, headaches, nausea, dizziness, exhaustion.

Heat stroke signs include: hot, red, dry skin, changes in consciousness; rapid weak pulse, shallow breathing and high body temperature.
