Iowa State Student Quarantined For TB

The TB infection was diagnosed through routine screening at Thielen Student Health Center.

An Iowa State University student who tested positive for tuberculosis has been isolated from the community until the disease clears, according to a release from the Iowa State University News service.

Thielen Student Health Center doctors diagnosed the student through a routine screening required of all incoming international students.

Public health officials are investigating the case and contacting anyone who might have been exposed to the student, who lives on campus. The disease is not easily transmitted and is curable with antibiotics.

The infection is spread when an uninfected person breathes in TB germs that an infected person coughs, sneezes or transmits into the air, the release said.
