Board Discusses Woodin Replacement

Ames School Board members seemed to agree on appointing Jane Acker to fill the remainder of Woodin's term.

Three former Ames Community School Board members have applied to fill the remainder of former board president Dan Woodin's term.

Woodin, 62, died with lymphoma last month and the board opted to appoint someone to take his seat.

Jane Acker, Roy Cakerice and John Hascall applied to serve the remainder of Woodin's term.

And it appears that the board is leaning toward appointing Acker to the board, according to a report in the Ames Tribune.

New Board President Luke Deardorff said Acker's talents and expertise would best compliment the current board and Bill Talbot said he hesitated to recommend anyone but would probably vote for Acker based on “that gender balance issue,” according to the report.

Currently Teresa Simpson is the only woman on the seven-member board.

The board members hope to vote on the issue Oct. 21.

If you could vote, who would you choose?
