Peak Alert: Electric Services Asks Residents to Save Power

High temperatures are expected to place a high demand on electricity. The city is asking residents to do what they can to conserve power.

Scorching temperatures and high heat indexes are expected to place a great demand on electricity throughout the week.

Ames Electric Services, a municipally owned utility, has issued a “peak alert” for the coming days and asks that residents do what they can to save energy especially during peak demand hours from 2:30 to 6 p.m.

Residents are asked to reduce electricity usage by turning off any unnecessary electrical devices, closing drapes to block out the heating rays of the sun and waiting to wash dishes and clothes until later in the evening. People can also save energy by turning thermostats up 3 to 5 degrees and using fans to keep cool.
