The City of Ames wants to become a model of community health, but it needs some help from residents.
The city has applied to be a Blue Zone demonstration community. If selected, Ames would receive support in implementing healthy initiatives from the Blue Zones Project, a collaboration between Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Healthways.
Part of the city's application must include community support. Residents can sign up at www.bluezonesproject.com or text pledge support by typing BZP in the message line to the number 772937.
Ames' application is due Jan. 4. About 10 of 60 Iowa cities that have applied would be selected.
Residents who want to be more actively involved in Blue Zones Project should contact Stephanie Downs at (515) 239-5354 or email at email@example.com or Susan Gwiasda at (515) 239-5204 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org
