The City of Ames wants to become a model of community health, but it needs some help from residents.

The city has applied to be a Blue Zone demonstration community. If selected, Ames would receive support in implementing healthy initiatives from the Blue Zones Project, a collaboration between Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Healthways.

Part of the city's application must include community support. Residents can sign up at www.bluezonesproject.com or text pledge support by typing BZP in the message line to the number 772937.
