Deputy Recovering After Attack by Pit Bull at Ames Trailer Court

The dog's owner made the decision to put down the animal following the attack.

A Boone County sheriff's deputy is recovering from injuries sustained when he attacked by a Pit Bull at an Ames trailer court last week.

The Ames Tribune reported that on July 12, a deputy responded to a report of a barking dog that was trapping a man in his car at 1600 Lincoln Way on the west side of Ames.

The officer was wearing handling gloves, the article said, but the dog attacked the deputy, biting him and puncturing the glove he wore.

The dog was taken to the Boone County Humane Society, the Tribune reported, and the owner later made the decision to have the animal euthanized.

The county attorney's office is still determining whether or not charges will be fired.
