Ames Man Charged with Assault After 'Drunk Fight'

A fight outside Sips brings charges in Ames Police blotter.

A man who told police that he had “too much” to drink and had been in a “drunk fight” was charged with public intoxication and simple assault on Jan. 19.

Ames Police went to the 100 block of Welch Ave. about midnight Jan. 19 to investigate a report of a fight, according to criminal complaints.

One of the men told police that he was punched while sitting on a bench outside of Sips, complaints said. The 21-year-old man had a large red bump under his eye and said that he was in a “drunk fight” but wouldn't explain what it meant when asked, complaints said. He told police who punched him and police stopped Jacob Dean, 20, of Stanton Avenue, complaints said.

Dean told police that he had “too much” to drink, and police said he had blood shot watery eyes and smelled like alcohol, according to complaints. Dean said he had been drinking at Sips, complaints said.

Dean, 20, Stanton Ave., was charged with public intoxication and serious assault.
