Support the U.S. Biker/Citizen Ambassador for the Aug 2012 International Peace Bike Tour

This summer, Michelle Gin's road leads to Japan. She'll participate as a peace advocate by bicycle to show solidarity with victims and survivors of nuclear war.

In August 2012, 44 brave young activists will cycle through southern Japan on an International Peace Bike Tour to show their solidarity with the victims and survivors of nuclear weapons, nuclear testing, uranium mining, nuclear energy and nuclear accidents in the past 60 years. The U.S. Biker/Citizen Ambassador is from the one and only Iowa City, IA! Meet Michelle Gin, U of Iowa graduate andAssistant Development Director for the non-profit Iowa Physicians for Social Responsibility, and make a contribution here.

The tour will start and finish in the two cities destroyed by nuclear bombs in August of 1945. Starting off in Nagasaki with a show of solidarity for the people of the city, the participants will cycle to Hiroshima, where the 20th IPPNW World Congress will take place. On the 500 km between these two cities, they will meet locals, speak with politicians, give media interviews and organize public demonstrations.

After the bike tour, the 2012 Student Congress and 20th World Congress will take place in Hiroshima. Together, they will call for an end of the nuclear arms era. Activists will develop an action plan in Japan for their respective IPPNW chapters and country. The action plans are intended to alert and inform people to the dangers to their health and to advocate for their right to a healthy life.
