Thursday Follow-Ups
What voters think about Occupy Wall Street and Mitt Romney. But not at the same time.
Follow-ups to Wednesday posts:
We've discussed how Democrats plan to tie Republicans to the Tea Party due to the fact that the movement is unpopular among poll respondents.
But the Democrats are attempting to embrace the "Occupy" movement, which isn't faring much better. Thirty-eight percent of poll respondents are favorable, while 24 percent see the movement in an unfavorable light. Journalist George Will thinks the unfavorable numbers will continue to rise.
However, I'm also interested in the fact that 35 percent of respondents don't know how to feel about the effort. That's due to a lack of coherent message. This Venn diagram contains an effective message for both Occupy and the Tea Party. If a presidential candidate will tap into this central message, that candidate will skyrocket in the polls. The creator of the diagram points out that not everything in society has to be divided into conservative or liberal categories.
Meanwhile, another poll strengthens my point that Herman Cain can win the Iowa caucus--Cain leads among "high-interest voters" (re: those that attend caucuses) while Romney leads among "less-interested voters."
