Iowans Choose Flowers to Celebrate First in the Nation Caucus Status

Iowans can start practicing for the upcoming caucus with a flower caucus at Reiman Gardens Sunday.

Can't wait for the next caucus? Reiman Gardens will celebrate Iowa's first in the nation caucus status with flowers on Sunday as part of the Gardens 2013 theme “More than Meets the Iowa”

Reiman Gardens will host the first in the nation Flower Caucus from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and visitors will be encouraged to vote for their favorite flower. A serious discussion on the Iowa Political Caucuses begins at 1:30 p.m. Panelists include: Dianne Bystrom, Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics director, Kathie Obradovich,Des Moines Register political columnist, and Dave Price, WHO-TV political expert.

A flower related panel discussion: called Reiman Gardens’ All-American Selections Trial Ground will begin at 3:30 p.m. Panelists include with Jessie Liebenguth, Reiman Gardens' trial judge, Aaron Steil, WHO Radio Gardening Today commentator, and Mark Widrlechner, an Iowa State University affiliate associate professor.

Other activities include a political button making station, a wacky hat station, voting machine demonstrations and caucus memorabilia displays.

Admission is free for Reiman Gardens’ members and Iowa State University students. General admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors ages 65 and up, $4 for youth ages 4-17, and free for kids 3 and under.
