“We don't want you to live in Ames and go, 'Oh that went on last weekend?'” said Chris Lyng, Maximum Ames Music Festival co-director said at the time.

Lyng and bandmate Nate Logsdon said they hoped to make the event an annual festival upping the ante each year.

The Mountain Goats was among headliners in the first year. And the second festival brought indie and rockabilly legends like Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel and Wanda Jackson.

The Zombies one of the top names of this year's festival is one of the “original British invasion bands,” that found mainstream success as early as 1964, festival organizers said in a release about the upcoming lineup.

Other highlights of Maximum Ames Music Festival 2013 include Greg Brown, Bo Ramsey, The Meat Puppets, Murder by Death and The Hood Internet.

MAMF organizers said Brown a Grammy nominated recording artist from Iowa is a Godfather of Iowa Music.

“He has become the most celebrated living Iowa artist,” according to the release.

Brown and Ramsey, an Iowa blues legend, will headline one night of the show.
