Forbes Names Ames One of the Best Places to Retire in 2013

Ames was selected from more than 400 cities in the nation.

Iowa is not one of the best states to retire in according to Forbes magazine, but Ames is one of the top cities to retire in 2013.

A release from the Ames Chamber and Ames Economic Development Commission said that communities are awarded the Forbes title when they have a cost of living below the national average and a median home price below the current national average. Currently the national median home price is at $186,000, according to the release.

Ames positive attributes listed on Forbes were its ambiance, good air and reasonable cost of living. The fact that it's home to Iowa State is another plus, according to Forbes. And the average home price is $180,000.
