City of Ames: Be Ready to Move Valuables to Higher Ground

City says be prepared for flooding as rain continues.

From a media release:

The City of Ames is working with the National Weather Service (NWS) to monitor local stream flow predictions and prepare for any low-level flooding. More rain is forecast, and any more precipitation could cause significant flooding.

The City is modeling river crest levels for both the Skunk River and Squaw Creek. Based on data received from several monitoring sites, models are predicting both Squaw Creek and Skunk River could reach or exceed flood stage. These are predictions, and flooding is always a risk during times of significant rainfall. Residents should be prepared to quickly move valuables, including vehicles, to higher ground. If water levels threaten nearby electric metering equipment or transformers, the result could be a temporary disconnection of electricity.
