CREDO Super PAC's Take Down King group said a review of Congressman Steve King, R-Kiron's campaign expenditures reveals that nearly 1 out of every 10 dollars has gone to pay either himself or a family member. Since 2003, FEC filings show that King has spent nearly $492,000 on salary and reimbursements to himself, his wife, son and daughter-in-law and he spent a total of $5.2 million on his congressional campaign in that same time period. King, who is currently campaigning for the 4th District, has reimbursed himself more than $65,000. Jeff King, King's campaign manager, has been paid and reimbursed a total of $372,202 since 2004. Congressman Steve King, R-Kiron, has been protested in recent days for comments on animal fighting that he has made. On this rebuttal video attached to this story, King says that he only meant that human rights should come before animal rights and that he has broken up fights between dogs. King faces Christie Vilsack, a Democrat of Ames, in a race for Iowa's new 4th District.

CREDO's Take Down King group brought 30 people and a number of animals to a protest outside Steve King, R-Kiron's headquarters in Ames this week. Here is a snipet of the protest found on YouTube. This time the group was protesting King's animal rights voting record. Marcus Keinert an Iowa State University student tells the cameraman that King seems to insult a demographic of the population he cares about on a weekly basis. King recently voted with 18 other congressman against an amendment to the current farm bill that would make attending an animal fight or bringing a child to one a federal crime. Steve King, R-Kiron, has made excuses for dog fighting and has tried to block Congressional efforts to “crack down on animal abuse.” The groups plan to protest King at 11 a.m. Thursday outside his campaign office at 711 E. CREDO Super PAC of Ames' Take Down Headquarters marched with about 50 people from the Kmart parking lot to Hickory's Hall where Steve King, R-Kiron, planned to speak Monday evening. They chanted negative rhymes about King such as: “K-I-N-G too extreme for you and me,” and “Iowa needs jobs not bigoted snobs,” and more. “If I had a dollar for every time someone said how embarrassing this man was I could run 10 campaigns," Alec Johnson, CREDO district director, said through a megaphone. Story County Republicans will be greeted by special guests at tonight's Judge Joseph Story Annual Dinner held 6:30 p.m. at Hickory's Hall. Iowa Congressman Steve King, R-King, is the keynote speaker for the ticketed event and CREDO protesters will be there too. In a release sent today, CREDO, which set up a Take Down King headquarters in Ames, said dozens of Iowa voters and CREDO SuperPAC volunteers will protest outside the fundraiser starting at 6 p.m. “The protesters take issue with Rep. Roxanne Conlin, former Senate candidate and prominent attorney, will join members of the Women Against King Committee and CREDO SuperPAC volunteers on Monday at the Ames Public Library. The meeting is scheduled to begin 7 p.m. CREDO SuperPAC recently opened a Take Down King headquarters in Ames. They are rallying against Congressman Steve King, R-Kiron.
