CREDO Says 10 Percent of King's Campaign Bills Go To Family

CREDO Super PAC's Take Down King group said 1 out of every 10 campaign dollars goes to King or his family and that the payments should be illegal.

CREDO Super PAC's Take Down King group said a review of Congressman Steve King, R-Kiron's campaign expenditures reveals that nearly 1 out of every 10 dollars has gone to pay either himself or a family member. Since 2003, FEC filings show that King has spent nearly $492,000 on salary and reimbursements to himself, his wife, son and daughter-in-law and he spent a total of $5.2 million on his congressional campaign in that same time period. King, who is currently campaigning for the 4th District, has reimbursed himself more than $65,000. Jeff King, King's campaign manager, has been paid and reimbursed a total of $372,202 since 2004. "If it's not against the law for Steve King to pay himself and his family nearly $500,000 out of his campaign …

Since the election cycle began. You can find it under campaign expenditures by two year periods. The first contract payment was Oct. 2011: http://www.fec.gov/fecviewer/CandCmteTransaction.do That doesn't include reimbursements or health care coverage. If you look up the same for Steve King some of the information is under Jeff King's name and the rest is under PayChex and you have to click on the… &nbsp more ›

Steve King: Comments on Animal Fighting Distorted

Congressman Steve King, R-Kiron, said his comments on animal fighting have been distorted.

Congressman Steve King, R-Kiron, has been protested in recent days for comments on animal fighting that he has made. On this rebuttal video attached to this story, King says that he only meant that human rights should come before animal rights and that he has broken up fights between dogs. King faces Christie Vilsack, a Democrat of Ames, in a race for Iowa's new 4th District.

I have to agree with Ron. King's attempted walk-back on his earlier apparent support for dog fighting doesn't really negate his original statement or his overall anti-animal stance in general. In a number of separate statements, he's basically said that as long as abortion is legal in this country, people should be allowed to abuse animals. Seriously. WTF? Go read his remarks, that's the bizarre … &nbsp more ›

VIDEO: Dogs and People Protest Congressman Steve King

This week people were upset over King's animal rights record and protested outside King's campaign office here in Ames. King faces Christie Vilsack for Iowa's new 4th district.

CREDO's Take Down King group brought 30 people and a number of animals to a protest outside Steve King, R-Kiron's headquarters in Ames this week. Here is a snipet of the protest found on YouTube. This time the group was protesting King's animal rights voting record. Marcus Keinert an Iowa State University student tells the cameraman that King seems to insult a demographic of the population he cares about on a weekly basis. King recently voted with 18 other congressman against an amendment to the current farm bill that would make attending an animal fight or bringing a child to one a federal crime. The amendment was approved by a majority vote, but the bill remains stalled in committee. The farm bill will expire Sept. 30 and several have …

I’m an Iowan. I know Steve King’s record. Steve King has a long, well-known legislative paper trail illustrating his commitment to doing everything he can to weaken or eliminate regulations aimed at reducing the suffering of the animals we share our lives with. That’s why his thoughtless dog fighting comments are sticking to him for more than just a 24-hour news cycle – his statement resonates … &nbsp more ›

CREDO: U.S Rep. Steve King Defends Animal Cruelty

CREDO Super Pac said Steve King has made comments that defend animal fighting in discussions of the current farm bill. CREDO plans another protest 11 a.m. Thursday.

CREDO Super PAC and Paws Against King said U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Kiron, has made excuses for dog fighting and has tried to block Congressional efforts to “crack down on animal abuse.” The groups plan to protest King at 11 a.m. Thursday outside his campaign office at 711 E. Lincoln Way in Ames. King is in a race against Christie Vilsack for Iowa's new 4th District. King recently voted against an amendment to the current farm bill --- which the Senate passed in June but has since stalled in the House --- that would have made attending an animal fight or taking children to one a federal crime. During a July 30 teleconference King said, “On the legislation that passed in the farm bill that says it's a federal crime to watch animals fight or …

Forgot to mention Steve King's alternate-reality argument (see his direct quote above) that anyone who dares to take a stand in favor of treating animals with some measure of compassion is really part of a shadowy, international conspiracy scheming to... wait for it... force Americans to become vegans. Yeah. That's why people volunteer their time at animal shelters or ask their congressmen to … &nbsp more ›

CREDO Marches Before King Speech

CREDO Super PAC protested the Judge Joseph Story County Republican Dinner because Steve King, R-Kiron, who faces Christie Vilsack for Iowa's 4th District planned to speak at the event.

CREDO Super PAC of Ames' Take Down Headquarters marched with about 50 people from the Kmart parking lot to Hickory's Hall where Steve King, R-Kiron, planned to speak Monday evening. They chanted negative rhymes about King such as: “K-I-N-G too extreme for you and me,” and “Iowa needs jobs not bigoted snobs,” and more. “If I had a dollar for every time someone said how embarrassing this man was I could run 10 campaigns," Alec Johnson, CREDO district director, said through a megaphone. Speakers took turns hurling insults and also asked King to come outside and answer some questions. He didn't, but two other people in Hickory's Hall parking lot shouted back at the group while holding a King campaign signs. One man said there were help wanted …

It's okay for progressives and democrats to maintain partisan stances, and have their own version of extremism. But when conservatives stand up it's not okay? Is that how this works? You can cry and scream all you want, but conservatives get a voice too...even if you don't agree to it. &nbsp more ›

CREDO; Vilsack Call Out King for Comments on Unemployed

If you missed it, Steve King was criticized for saying non-working Americans don't do enough for the economy.

Vilsack, CREDO React to Iowa Rep. Steve King Saying Unemployed Don't Work Enough

Vilsack said King is demonizing people who are looking for work instead of working on their behalf.

While President Barack Obama was in Iowa Tuesday asking the wealthy to pay their fair share, Congressman Steve King. R-Kiron, was in Washington D.C. saying the unemployed should work their fair share. King, who faces Christie Vilsack, an Ames Democrat for Iowa's new 4th District, said too many Americans weren't contributing to the gross domestic product on CNN after being asked if Americans making more than $250,000 a year should pay more taxes. He said too many Americans are not “contributing to the gross domestic product in the United States today” According to part of the transcript King also said “But if they are not going to work and there are a number approaching 100 million Americans of working age not in the workforce, and that …
