Wiseguys Burger Restaurant Opens For VEISHEA

A new burger bar and grill, Wiseguys, is set to open on Welch Avenue just in time for Iowa State University's VEISHEA celebration.

Caleb Johnson and his Wiseguys co-owners also own Cafe Mood and the Cave, two other Welch Avenue businesses. The trio started working on Wiseguys in mid-February.

“We thought about what was missing from Ames,” Johnson said.

Campustown doesn't have many places where you can sit down and eat, he said. Most of the commercial area's businesses are either fast food restaurants or bars.

Wiseguys will serve drinks as well but the focus of the business will be on the food, Johnson said.

The menu includes specialty burgers, appetizers, chicken sandwiches and veggie burgers. The bar would close at 2 a.m. and the kitchen would be open later.

Johnson said they put in new flooring, new bars and added a kitchen.

“It'll look a lot different than it did,” he said.
