London Olympics 2012: U.S. Women Win Gymnastics Gold Medal; Gabby Douglas Shines

Spoiler alert: The U.S. women's gymnastics team -- call them "The Fierce Five" -- won a gold medal Tuesday over Russia and third-place Romania.

Spoiler Alert: The U.S. women's gymnastics team won the gold medal Tuesday at London 2012 Olympics, according to CNN.com

"An emotional Raisman seals the deal for the U.S. with a blistering performance: 15.3. Gold for the U.S, silver for Russia and bronze for Romania," the network posted on its website.

Des Moines Register reporter Mark Emmert tweeted that the U.S. won "by a whopping 5.066 points. Raisman crying, telling her teammates she loves them. Gabby, always, smiling big."

Crucial to the team win was Gabby Douglas, who moved to West Des Moines two years ago to train with Liang Chow at Chow's Gymnastics.

The U.S. squad took the lead on completion of the first rotation, the vault, with a lead of 1.733 points over China and 1.766 over Russia. Canada was more than 5 points behind the leaders at that point, said USAToday reporter Christine Brennan.

The Americans won their first Olympic team gold since 1996 as all-around world champion Jordyn Wieber shook off her heartbreak at not landing a spot in the Olympic all-around, said USA Today. The Americans finished with 183.596 points. Russia won silver with 178.530. Romania took the bronze 176.414.

According to the Olympic format, each team selects three gymnasts for each of the four apparatuses in the final -- balance beam, uneven bars, vault and floor. The 16-year-old Douglas performed in each of the rotations while Wieber was called on for the floor, vault and uneven bars, said the Huffington Post

Hi, do you think that, when you send the breaking news, that you could put the spoiler alert in the subject line? In the Breaking news I received after seeing "Spoiler Alert" it was impossible NOT to see what the alert was regarding. Thank you.

I agree with Robert. At least put Spoiler Alert in the subject for those of us watching in the evening. I would not have opened the "Breaking News" if I had known you were posting an Olympic spoiler. Thank you.

They make it look easy, don't they? And the Olympics are full of great moments for West Des Moines, Shawn Johnson's hometown and Gabby Douglas' adopted home.
