Why nine? Because the Patch community includes nine sites in Iowa: AnkenyAmesCedar FallsIowa CityJohnstonMarionUrbandale, Waukee and West Des Moines.

Each week, Patch compiles the top stories from around the state. Kick back, and enjoy.

King's attempted walk-back on his earlier apparent support for dog fighting doesn't really negate his original statement or his overall anti-animal stance in general. In a number of separate statements, he's basically said that as long as abortion is legal in this country, people should be allowed to abuse animals. Seriously. WTF? Go read his remarks, that's the bizarre case he makes. And this sort of tortured logic fits into his overall modus operandi: King is clearly on the record, in multiple instances, as wanting to gut regulations, including bi-partisan statues, aimed at lessening the suffering of the animals we rely on for food and other products. I live in Iowa, but don't live in the 4th so can't vote for Christie Vilsack. So I'm writing this in the hope than anyone still undecided about who to vote for in November will consider Steve King's stunning lack of simple human compassion when it comes to our companion animals and food animals and cast their vote for Christie. And no, I'm not a vegan, or a communist, or even a liberal-from-Mars-out-to-steal-your-guns. I'm someone who thinks our domestic animals depend on us humans for everything that happens to them. It's our responsibility to treat them with some kind of basic decency.
