Route Maps Released for RAGBRAI 2012

RAGBRAI has released detailed maps of the 2012 bicycle route.

Detailed route maps have been released for RAGBRAI XL.

While the towns that will anchor the route had been announced previously, the maps show the specific roads cyclists will travel along as they trek from one side of Iowa to the other from July 22-28.

These maps are particularly useful for those of that ride RAGBRAI. Go here to see the map and get printable versions to bring with you.

For those unfamiliar, the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa - dubbed RAGBRAI - is an annual biking event that draws thousands of cyclists and spectators from around the state, nation and world. Riders pedal from the Missouri River to Mississippi River during the seven-day, non-competitive ride that is a bit like a rolling state fair.

This year, Patch will be along for the ride with staff members riding, blogging and taking pictures. We will also have a photo project. Readers from our nine Iowa Patch sites will be posting their own favorite pictures of RAGBRAI 2012 throughout the week. If you have interest in being part of the project, drop us an email.

Unregistered riders/campers, where do they go in Cedar Falls? We found this info on the other towns at thier townnameragbrai.com, but I cant find it for Cedar Falls. We are 4 riders & one small RV, we didnt get picked on the ragbrai lottery, so we are riding unregistered, we want to be respectful of Cedar Falls residents, where should we be.? These three areas on the Cedar Falls map are for registered vehicles only, EllisPark(orange tribe), WashingtonPark(green tribe), Veterans&ClevelandPark(blue tribe). thanks much, Walt

Walt, do you mean to say Cedar Falls or Cedar Rapids? As far as I know, Cedar Falls isn't on the route this year, though it's wonderful to stay there when it is. Thursday night, July 26th, the overnight town is Cedar Rapids, which is where we'll be leaving from Friday morning to go to Anamosa.

You can reserve a spot on line through the state park website for your RV at Palisades Kepler if any spots are available, which is outside of Cedar Rapids. It's on Hwy. 30 East between Cedar Rapids and Mount Vernon, so it would be handy and beautiful spot to stay. It's on a river (the Cedar River?). There's also a few county parks w/ showers if Palisades Kepler isn't available. They are

Morgan Creek County Park (2.5 mis. west of Cedar Rapids)
Pinicon Ridge County Park (1 mi. west of Central City, which is just north of CR)

It's first come, first served at county parks, but not everyone remembers they're there on RAGBRAI. We always had good luck doing that when we used to camp. County parks can be delightful and convenient.
