Cain's Stunning Climb Continues in Latest Poll Showing Him Atop the Pack in Iowa
New polls rank Herman Cain at or near the top of the GOP presidential field.
Weeks ago, former Godfather's chief executive Herman Cain was just another face in the crowd, an also-ran in the GOP field of presidential hopefuls.
But his surprising climb to the top continued with new polls placing Cain as one of, if not, the favorite. The wave of support has spread to Iowa, where one poll suggests he is the new bet to win the Iowa Caucuses.
Public Policy Polling, a Democrat polling company, reinforces that Herman Cain is truly a top-tier candidate. In the poll of 311 likely caucus goers, taken from Oct. 7 to 10, Cain surged ahead while Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann plummeted.
In the poll released Tuesday, Cain has 30 percent of the support. That's well ahead of Mitt Romney’s 22 percent, Ron Paul’s 10 percent, Perry’s 9 percent, Newt Gingrich’s and Bachmann’s 8 percent, Rick Santorum’s 5 percent, and Jon Huntsman’s and Gary Johnson’s 1 percent.
Cain has been popular as ever since winning the Florida Straw Poll in September.
In the latest Gallup poll released on Monday, Cain's support among Republicans and Republican-leaning independents climbed to 18 percent compared to 5 percent a month earlier.
Romney, led that poll with 20 percent support, and Perry saw his support fall from 31 percent to 15 percent.
A Washington Post/Bloomberg News poll, also released Monday, had Romney in front nationally at 24 percent, Cain at 16 percent and Perry at 13 percent. Romney is also in front, with 23 percent of 371 likely Iowa Republican caucus goers, according to an NBC News/Marist poll taken Oct. 3-5. Cain came in second with 20 percent.
What do you think? Would you support Herman Cain for president?

I would support a ticket with Newt Gingrich on the ticket as vice-president. They would make an unbeatable pair.

That would be an interesting combo. Why do you think a Cain/Gingrich ticket would be unbeatable, Victor?

I like either Cain/Gingrich or Gingrich Cain.

Why that combo in particular?

Yeah, I too think a Cain/Newt ticket would be DYNOMITE! My reason? Newt would lend the required intellectual GRAVITAS to the free-thinking, imaginative Cain, that's why. And besides Romney would NEVER serve under anybody, Ron Paul would be an uncontrollable Maverick, Huntsman would intellectualize everything to death, Perry is a sleaze-ball, and Michelle Bachmann would just be a Sarah Palin re-run leading to a BHO Re-election. Did I leave out anybody? If so, I apologize. Oh yes, Rick Santorum.
I rest my case.

They're both Georgians, though. Don't presidential candidates usually try to balance the ticket geographically? How would you Cain supporters like pairing like a Cain/Paul Ryan ticket?
