Ames Woman Named to Romney Leadership Team

Jacqui Norman will help mobilize supporters for the former Massachusetts governor and GOP presidential candidate.

Ames resident Jacqui Norman has become a member of Mitt Romney's Iowa leadership team.

The Story County activist is supporting the former Massachusetts governor's White House bid as she did four years ago in the 2007 Iowa Straw Poll.

“Well I supported Romney last time, as well, so, of course I'm excited to support him this time,” Norman said.

Norman attended the 2011 Straw Poll wearing the same yellow T-shirt, though Romney skipped the event.

Norman was announced as a local leader for Romney in a news release from the campaign last week.

The names of State Rep. Linda Miller of Bettendorf, Dallas County Recorder Chad Airhart of Waukee, and Woodbury County activist Kristin Moran of Sioux City were also on the list.

The volunteers will help mobilize supporters in their local areas. Norman said she will probably make some calls as the Iowa caucus approaches.

In the meantime, the 40-year-old, stay-at-home mother and teacher tells people what she likes about Romney when she has the chance. She said she likes Romney's background in leadership and his proven ability to turn a bad situation around.

“I feel we were in troubled waters (at the time of) the last election and we elected someone who has taken us further into the storm,” Norman said.

She said the President Obama has never led a business or demonstrated leadership during a crisis, but Romney has and has an analytical mind.

Hawaii Congressman Charles Djou said in a press release endorsing the candidate on Monday that Romney's responsible for turning around businesses, the Winter Olympics and Massachusetts.

“I want a problem solver because we have lots of problems,” Norman said.
