Ames Man Charged with Willful Injury in Weekend Assault

The 29-year-old faces more than five years in prison if found guilty.

A 29-year-old Ames man has been charged with aggravated domestic assault and willful injury for an alleged assault that took place in a Beedle Drive apartment early Saturday morning, according to the Ames Police Department.

The criminal complaint said Jawondrick Jones was in an apartment at 133 Beedle Drive about 3 a.m. and hit a woman in the back of the head with his fist multiple times, kicked her in the ribs, discharged a fire extinguisher on the woman making it impossible for her to breathe, attacked her with a steak knife and choked her until she lost consciousness.

After the attack, the woman had some redness and bruising on her neck, had difficulty swallowing and had a raspy voice, the complaint said.

Jones allegedly left the scene when officers arrived, the complaint said, but police arrested him later.

Jones is being held in the Story County Jail in Nevada on a $15,000 bond, according to the Story County Jail's website.

Willful injury is a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison.Β
