Ames Board Selects 6 Architects for Interviews

Ames Community School Board hopes to interview 6 architects May 29 and have one on board by June 4.

The Ames Community School District narrowed the list of architects who were interested in designing new elementary schools in Ames to six.

The Board plans to interview BCDM, of Omaha/Roseland Mackey Harris Architects PC, of Ames; DLR Group, of Des Moines; OPN Architects, of Des Moines; RDG Planning and Design, of Ames; StruXture Architects, of West Des Moines; and SVPA Architects, Inc. of West Des Moines; at the May 29 meeting, said Kathy Hanson, Ames schools director of community and media relations.

Those selected were among several architects that offered or were asked to submit a proposal for services. StruXture Architects worked with the board as a consultant to help develop the district's long-range facility plan.

Board President Dan Woodin has said that the board hopes to select an architect at its June 4 meeting.

The community approved in April a $55 bond referendum to fun construction and renovations for five elementary schools in the district.

Edwards Elementary will be replaced with a new three-section building on Miller Avenue and it's expected that it will be built first. Meeker and Fellows elementary schools will be replaced on site and Sawyer and Mitchell elementary schools will be renovated.
